Introducing “Club Spotlight”

In an increased effort to highlight and promote our 100+ Member Clubs, we have set aside this page to “Spotlight” a Club that would like to be presented. If your Club has an interest in being spotlighted, please send a request to Commodore@CBYCA.org indicating your interest, a brief overview and history of your Club, services offered, special events planned, unique service to the Chesapeake Bay area, and any other information you feel would be of value to other CBYCA Clubs or prospective members. Ideally, we would love to have an entry for each of our Clubs to share!

Club Introduction

March 2024 – Corinthian Yacht Club of the Chesapeake

Corinthian Yacht Club of the Chesapeake was founded in 1903, in Washington, DC, and joined CBYCA as a Chartered Member in 1958! The founders were nineteen “boys” who were interested in “sailing, rowing, canoeing, or any pastime that would cause them to spend a few hours on the water.”

Over the past 121 years, the Club thrived and re-located from Washington, DC to Ridge, Maryland on Jutland Creek. They are just off the Potomac River, a few miles south of St. Mary’s City. The are also approximately seven miles from Point Lookout, where the Potomac River joins the Chesapeake Bay.

The majority of their members are power boaters; however, they enjoy a mix of boating styles and continue to share the love for spending time on the water.The Club enjoys 20 plus acres of serene waterfront property, the clubhouse, pool, boat ramp, covered slips, and as an added bonus –rooms and cottage rental for a nominal fee. However, the real attraction is their members, their camaraderie and genuine caring for each other. Many members take vacations together, cruise together year around.

Lodging

Club has full facilities to enhance the comfort and experience of their members and guests. They Club have a two bedroom rental cottage and a club-house with three guest rooms available to members and guests. There are 5 cottages overall.

Activities

Fishing & Crabbing

The Club is the perfect place to locate a boat in a slip to fish the Chesapeake Bay and lower Potomac River. Lower St. Mary’s County is famous for its excellent fishing.

Seasonally available species include:

Rockfish – Bluefish – Croaker – Spot – Perch – Sea Trout

Crabbing is a popular activity with a plentiful bounty of crabs to catch. Most weekends include members and their guests cooking pots of crabs in the large commercial kitchen.
